This course offers an exciting opportunity to develop your creative identity through a rigorous and challenging programme of intensive study.
We are an independent institute, which has enabled us the freedom to develop an in house Foundation course as we believe it should be delivered.
Our experienced tutors will help you to build a dynamic portfolio of creative work as well as identifying and affirming your skills and interests within art and design. This course will prepare you for study at degree level and provide the foundation to set you on your journey in creative self employment.
Studying at Artpocket
Artpocket is located on the second floor of Lion House Studios in the Norwich Creative Quarter, a professional and vibrant community of creative practitioners.
Artpocket members enjoy a creative and supportive environment that offers 1-1 tuition and supports the realisation of the individuals creative potential.
Within the Art Intensive course we very much embrace the core foundational skills of drawing, painting and sculpture. We adopt a contemporary approach to the visual arts; including skills in performance, animation, installation, sound, textiles, book arts, and printmaking. Students will develop skills within observational drawing, gain critical knowledge and understanding of context within art and design methodologies and apply these to develop their own creative practice, be this fine art or design focused.
You will be introduced to in depth contextual research of both fine art and design, develop study skills including sketchbook annotation, documentation and reflection of research and creative work. You will develop your academic research and writing skills as well as analytical and critical thinking.
Over the duration of the course you will explore a range of 2D and 3D media and materials including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, book arts, sculpture.
As the course progresses You will develop self led project briefs in line with your chosen creative discipline.
Students will be encouraged to explore the use of traditional and non traditional media and materials to explore ideas. By the end of the course you should expect to be an independent thinker, self motivated, resourceful, innovative, and fired up with ideas and a toolkit of techniques and processes ready to take onto the next stage of your creative career.
This course will enable you to build a strong portfolio that demonstrates broad exploration of the creative process and evidence your commitment and determination towards your chosen creative future.
There will be opportunities throughout the year to exhibit with Artpocket and thus promote your creative practice. You will develop self - promotion materials, gather knowledge and experience of curation and display.
You will join an established community of creative practitioners, developing a network of professional contacts.
Artpocket run study visits locally, nationally and internationally to widen your cultural and creative experience and feed into your own art practice.
Those undertaking the Art Intensive course will be wishing to progress onto Higher Education in a creative subject area or creative employment / self employment. Artpocket tutors have a highly successful track record of supporting individuals to gain degree places at institutes across the UK and abroad. Support with UCAS, portfolio building and applications for creative employment is embedded into the course.
Throughout the course there will be regular assessment deadlines, where you will be graded at Pass/Merit/Distinction in response to a developed set of assessment criteria. Although this is a non-accredited course, the level of assessment criteria will be aimed at level 3/4. After successful completion of the course you will receive an in-house certificate.

To Who is the course for?
Those undertaking the Arts Intensive course will be wishing to progress onto Higher Education in a creative subject area or creative employment and self employment.
Formal qualifications are not essential for entry to the course, and all applicants will be assessed on merits of their visual portfolio. Applicants will be required to attend an interview and bring a along a portfolio of creative work as well as carry out a short written task set by the tutors to assess suitability for the course and the level of work expected.
