A six-week course in creative writing and illustration for adults, working towards creating a professionally printed picture book for a specific child or group of children. You will develop skills in story-telling, illustration, narrative and composition, with a focus on embedding opportunities for speech and language development for young readers. After the last week, Rose will pull together your writing, design and illustrations into print-ready books, and you will receive three copies in the post to share.
All materials provided, no prior experience in writing or illustration needed. If the cost is a barrier to you, please get in touch. Tutor Rose Feather is a published children's book illustrator and story-focused arts facilitator.
This course is supported by The Arts Project Fund, Norfolk County Council.
18th April 2022
6 weeks, Mondays
Course Cost: £145.00 (including basic materials)
Tutor: Rebecca Tough
During the course you will explore different methods of putting pages together through stitch, cut and fold.
Each week you will produce a dummy model of the form but also experiment with ways of bringing together the form of the book and the content. We will look at Japanese book binding and stab stitch, ways to stitch single and multi-folio forms and look at clever ways to manipulate paper to create folded works. We will be using simple forms of print and stitch, combining this with painterly techniques and collage to create text and image.
At the end of the course you will have number of techniques, materials and skills to add to your toolkit and the confidence to break all the rules to create personal book art forms.
No experience is necessary - all you need is an enthusiasm to learn and have a go!
