BARBER SHOP RESIDENCY11th - 24th April 2016
Post Script. Hannelore Smith and Rebecca Tough have worked collaboratively to produce a bookwork which further explores the local legend of Shipden off the North Norfolk coast. The artpocket collective began producing work collaboratively in 2014 to create a short film titled The Garden of sleep based on the tragedy of Shipden. The imagery generated brought together the range of experience of the group and their various disciplines Photography, Textiles and Print. The new pieces are as much a response to the film produced as well as a reflection on the nature of collaboration. Words such as tension and binding bring together the technical language that describes the processes used and the experience of making work with others. The cylindrical forms reflect imagery found in the film and invite the viewer to interact with the work by peering through the holes and looking between the layers of imagery and stitch. Whilst some of the original imagery features in the new work the pages focus more on the feel and the atmosphere of the legend and less on the actual narrative. The translucent quality of the pieces lend a certain romantic element and resonate with the texture and layering found in The Garden of Sleep. |
