Portfolio
During each 10 week Portfolio course you will be guided through the creative process and you will develop a body of creative work that is personal to you and demonstrates your own ideas and responses to the project theme. Due to the popularity of this course, we have developed new introductory and advanced level projects (suitable for those that have already undertaken Portfolio courses with us previously). |
I enrolled with Art Pocket to sharpen up my creative thinking and enhance my art practice. I’ve learned new techniques, improved and built on my skills. Each project with Hannelore has been a thoroughly enjoyable challenge, involving exploration, experiments and visits. |
This is a course that is accessible for all levels and abilities, our cohorts include individuals wanting to come and join in for leisure and personal wellbeing, those who are looking to progress onto further or higher education as well as people who have perhaps studied creative subjects in a past life and are wanting to refresh their skills and knowledge.
Stage 1: EXPLORE
Within the first 5 weeks of the course you will be introduced to a range of media and processes that may include; print, drawing, painting, textiles and 3D techniques. You will be supported in the development of these skills and will produce a body of work which responds to a given theme. You will be introduced to creative practitioners that are relevant to the theme and encouraged to explore these further and continue to gather visual research away from the studio.
Stage 2: NAVIGATE
Throughout this stage you will focus on the development of media and materials that interest and excite you. You will further develop and extend work made in the first stage and explore ideas and concepts that are personal to you. You will participate in group discussion and 1-1 tutorials in order to broaden your ideas and approach to your work and develop confidence in talking about your creative practice.
By the end of the course, students will have covered all the fundamental skills within the creative process and achieved a thematic body of work that demonstrates personal ideas and approaches.
Students that have completed 'portfolio' have successfully progressed onto FE and HE courses, creative employment & self-employment

Advanced Level
'Nature 2.0'
Tuesdays
From 14th January 2025, 10am - 2pm, 10 weeks
(no session 18th February due to half term)
£350
As climate change reshapes our world, artists are re-examining humanity’s deep-rooted connection with nature—an enduring theme across cultures and history. In Nature 2.0, we’ll explore the intersection of nature, science, art, and technology, where these fields merge to deepen our understanding of ecosystems and inspire creative responses to environmental challenges. We will discover innovative ways to express our connection to nature through a variety of hands-on, experimental techniques and workshops. Drawing inspiration from contemporary artists and designers working across art, science, and technology, we will engage in projects that emphasise sustainability and ecological awareness.
This advanced course is designed for former Art Direction or Portfolio students, as well as those with foundational skills in drawing, printmaking, 3D work, and/or textiles.
This course is designed to encourage students to explore their creative practice more deeply, as well as the practices of their peers. It will provide opportunities for group discussions and supportive feedback, creating a collaborative learning environment. Additionally, dedicated time will be allocated for focused one-on-one tutorials, allowing individuals to receive personalised support for their creative development.
The first five weeks will consist of guided practical workshops, with all necessary materials provided by Kaitlin. In the latter half of the course, participants will have the opportunity to revisit and expand upon their projects, taking them in new, self-directed directions. For this part of the course, participants should bring their own art kits and materials.
Course Highlights:
Nature Reserve Visit: Visit to a local nature reserve to provide direct inspiration for creative projects.
Material Exploration: Experiment with a diverse range of materials, from traditional art supplies to innovative, eco-friendly options like biomaterials crafted from natural substances. This exploration will build both technical skills and conceptual approaches to artmaking.
Sustainability Focus: Explore sustainable material practices to make art more eco-conscious. This includes incorporating waste materials as creative resources and finding ways to reduce the environmental impact of our artwork.
Supportive Environment: The course will provide a warm, collaborative atmosphere that encourages exploration, learning, and experimentation.
