Drawing with stitch
Explore the addictive art of free motion sewing. Let loose and learn how to draw freehand with the sewing machine as well as trace and transfer images into stitch. Explore different yarn qualities, as well as the magic of dissolving fabric! One thing is for sure- you will be well and truly hooked! |

Explore the technique of bondaweb appliqué to layer up and build shape and colour; Embellish with hand stitch to create an approximately A4 size abstract collage based on your own image or following tutors examples. |
Pleat, gather, fold - resist dye.
Experiment with simple folding and stitching techniques to create resists for both hot and cold water dyeing. Create beautiful bold and subtle patterned effects on natural and synthetic fabrics. you will go home with a range of samples that might remain a toolkit of techniques to refer back to or could be further developed using stitch. |
Hand made paper
Stick two fingers up to that mounting junk mail; Pulverise it all into a helpless pulp! Turn a daily irritation into a range of beautiful, bold and individual recycled and reformed papers. Explore embossing, layering and trapping. Your hand made papers could be used for drawing and writing or be further developed in our stitch, collage or bookbinding workshops. some may remain as works of art in their own right. |
Fabric Manipulation
This technical workshop will explore a range of ways to create texture through pleating, gathering and folding fabric using the sewing machine. You will be introduced to techniques such as yo-yos and tucks to create a series of samples to refer back to and employ in future garment, furnishing or textile art projects. |
