Florigami
After graduating from Bristol with a Graphic Design degree in 1998, paper quickly became the main focus of Meg's art. After coming across a book written by American paper flower artist Tiffany Turner she fell in love with it and devoured everything I could about the fine art of paper flower making. “I spent hours watching YouTube videos, bought more books, and scoured Instagram for images and tutorials, teaching myself as I went. Most importantly I learned from the flowers growing in my garden. I would choose a bloom, take it apart, and study every bit of the flower, making templates of all the different parts. I would then cut each piece from hand-dyed crepe papers and reconstruct it to make my own delicate paper version."
What started as a hobby for Meg rapidly evolved into an all-consuming passion and culminated in the establishment of her flourishing (pun intended!) business, aptly named "Floragami." Meg extends her love for paper flowers to others through her engaging workshops. These workshops are designed to bring people together, offering a few hours of creative rejuvenation and joy. The shared experience of crafting with one's hands, achieving the seemingly impossible, imparts a profound sense of tranquility and accomplishment. “It's a real delight to teach, watching the stresses of the day melt away as stamens and petals are cut and shaped, and new friendships are formed." |
As Meg’s cousin, Nell has helped out behind the scenes with Floragami from day one. She has been to nearly all of the workshops and made many beautiful flowers from what she has learned. As the business grew Meg realised she couldn't be in two places at once and Nell was the obvious choice to become the second tutor at Floragami.
With a love of all things craft, Nell has enjoyed many craft adventures from vintage teacup candle making to sewing beautiful bunting for weddings and celebrations. |
